This is weirdly similar to this other letter, which makes me wonder if one or both might be fake

DEAR ABBY: My niece "Alyssa," an only child, is on the kidney transplant list. When I had my DNA tested, I learned that my brother had fathered another child. The information and facts this woman ("Bree") has provided ring true and are very believable. I have no doubt Bree is his daughter.

Unfortunately, my irresponsible brother turned his back on this daughter. Bree does not want to pursue a relationship with him or with me. She did have some questions related to health issues because she has children of her own. My brother and I haven't spoken for 10 years, mainly because of how poorly he treated our late parents. Should I continue to honor Bree's request, or tell her about her half-sister who needs the transplant? -- INVOLVED AUNT IN FLORIDA

DEAR AUNT: If you think it might help Alyssa, inform Bree about Alyssa's need for a kidney transplant. There is, however, no guarantee that Bree's kidney would be a match. Do not be surprised if Bree responds negatively (or not at all), considering her lack of a relationship with her father or the rest of your family. I wish you luck on your search.

Hells, kidney disease was up there with diabetes as one of the few things kids in closed adoptions got told even in the dark ages of the 50's, 60's, and 70's.

Some kids were; I have no idea whether the diabetes I developed by 35 was a predictable development or my own personal achievement.

This may be two views of the same case but I wouldn't be surprised if this happened more than once.

I saw something noting that people are using ChatGPT to write reddit AITA posts (et alia), and I would not be surprised to have someone using autocomplete to compose their advice column letters.

If they're real, it's not the same situation -- the LW in the other one is 18 and doesn't mention having kids, plus it was the dad initiating, not the daughter.
