I have never heard of restricting how a parent comforts a child because it isn't always possible for a caregiver to do the same thing. E.g., I wouldn't refuse to breastfeed for comfort because a caregiver wasn't able to. If one parent isn't able to pick the child up, whether due to pregnancy or an injury or whatever, the other parent shouldn't be restricted from doing so.
