I feel like this did not answer his central question, though, and it's a good one. How SHOULD you deal with it if the other person finds you weird or strange after turning down or ending a romantic relationship? I think the answer is:
--Remember that you can't control how weird another person makes a situation, you can just control how weird YOU make it. --Take their cues on how much space they want (although if you want a little more than that, that's okay--but not less! definitely not less!). --You really have something with "take no for an answer and go back to our regular lives," really commit to that.
