Doctor-patient confidentiality in mental health depends on the age of the minor. I practice in Pennsylvania, and when a kid turns 14 I can only discuss treatment with the parent if the kid signs a release. Many parents are upset about this, but on the whole I think it’s a net positive for kids who need to know they have some privacy in order to open up.
