Well, you've worked at a school, so you've seen the other side of things, dealing with difficult/prickly/defensive parents. I do think it would be best for the LW to assume that the teacher didn't mean anything malicious, and just spoke without thinking. That would let her word a note that would be good for both her and the teacher.
