It's certainly a weird choice! And if Husband had written in I'd tell him to stop being so freaking weird and keep his historical curiosities in his study or den, like everybody else does with their hobbies, and also in the appropriate context - books go on shelves, not on the wall. And I'd certainly spell out all the reasons you did for why it looks inappropriately weird rather than just weirdly weird.

But it's a weird and possibly offensive choice that cannot be handled by throwing it out or by dragging friends into the middle of this dispute.
