If the LW's parents were the kind of folks who'd take that well, they'd have been the kind of folks to whom LW could've said several years ago "hey, I notice Outdoor Cat gets injured a lot, and I'm worried about him; would you mind if I took him home and made him My Pampered Indoor Cat?"
