My position is stronger than Appiah's: I unequivocally think LW did the right thing. It's worth noting that however much lower LW's brother's risk of severe illness may be than that of the general population (though I think Appiah minimizes it too much), he can undeniably carry the virus, and I think it's an ethical imperative at this point for all of us to take all reasonable measures to mitigate our risk of infecting others. Appiah does mention that, but I think it deserves a little more weight in the analysis.
