Yah. I mean, the fact that 3/5ths of our family households have cats has inevitably shaped a lot, but 2/5ths of those households are also not in the home town, so...yeah. Choices are choices. I just get so annoyed at my brother, who said things like my mom chose her cats over her grandchildren. My mom raised four kids basically by herself. Her whole life was arranging trips to soccer tournaments and scoring baseball games and endless doctors' appointments and school schedules. Then it was helping raise one granddaughter and taking in another for months while parents were deployed...you get the idea. Her cats bring her real happiness. She fucking deserved to arrange her life for herself.
