Rogaine was out when I was in high school. It's not new. So "I will share information with you about this product that is at least 30 years old, on the theory that you do not have this information, without you bringing it up" is...uh...what? If I think of my friends as "interested in self-improvement," I definitely do not assume that means "wants to fit my mental picture of their aesthetic."
