I had to stop my mother from doing this TO me: she found the stories about door-to-door salesmen asking if my mother was home HILARIOUS, especially because my deadpan response was to say I could call her and find out but this was in fact my home. It probably even was funny the first thirty-leven times. But we have lived in this house since the fall of 2003, when I was 25. If I'M not going to be the person who does this, she needs to not do it TO me.

I also have a friend who is 24 years older than me and kept saying how much younger he looks than his age, and that another friend had told him that he just never looks any older. I've seen pictures, and I can confirm that there was a chunk of approximate appearance stasis for him from ages about 28-48. But it ended. I ended up taking him aside and saying, you know...I don't think you can honestly claim to look 28 any more, and that's normal, because you are not 28, but if you keep bringing it up, you're asking people to compare your current appearance to what they'd think of your appearance if you were 28. Which is...maybe not what you want. And he stopped.
