Also non-shockingly, my answer comes down to a whole host of "depends," which is why I wish Abby had suggested couples talk about it at some point. I have actually talked with spouse about it, and he knows that if I become mentally incapable of providing him with his companionship needs, he can seek elsewhere. Physically incapable, pretty much the same thing, but with caveats. (I have the same permissions, of course.) Other people really might not feel that way, and I generally think it's best to have that kind of thing upfront.
