At 52, my whole working life I've had to push back against the 'girls' thing (bc it only ever reinforced being dismissed as an interchangeabe office wife subtype).

LW, if your slip-ups are so chronic, I can assure you they are not only with 'peers and leadership above'. Either you demean your staff this way to their faces, or you really can control your mouth when you see fit.

In a female-heavy field, many of your esteemed fellow leadership may see you as in fact disingenuous, and/or see your chronic awkward apologies as performative; an annoying attempt to get a pass on this, or be reassured about your intentions without correcting your actions, or even a cutesy way of asserting your vintage as an appeal to your own authority.
