Aubrey wasn’t fired because they believed she was misled by HR, so I understand that part even if I don’t agree with it, but she was on a tight PIP for a while.
HR exists to protect the company. The chief HR officer realized Aubrey had received enough endorsement for her behavior from HR that she might have grounds for a lawsuit were she to be fired without warning. Hence the PIP.
