I missed that on the first read-through too, and so did Amy obviously. Assuming the grandchild was going to send thank-you notes it would most properly be after receiving the money, and in my observations of this type of situation, it's usually after a couple of weeks have passed and the person has had time to replace some of the lost stuff with it.
