I haven't read Captain Awkward in years, but unless she's had a major personality shift, what possible answer did LW expect when she describe her disabled step-kid as lazy, of poor character, and resistant? Did she intend to write to Dear Abby or something?
Seriously, this is like writing to Ask a Manager with "I've been stealing from my boss's desk" or to Miss Manners with "how do I insult my uncle on Facebook?" What answer did they think they were going to get?
Honestly I'm shocked that this response is full of (amazingly good) advice and is not just "you dickbag."
