I've been a broke student and dealt with broke students, and the ordering a $50 steak thing in isolation could be just cluelessness, but combined with snarfing all the food at a meeting, it did not say "food insecurity," it said "frat boy." Neither of those is how anyone I've known dealt with food insecurity (pro tip: in restaurants, order something cheap like spaghetti that will make good leftovers, but fill up on bread so you can take it home).
