It's also not, like, new? The terminology is different and the internet makes it harder to have a clean break, but people have been cutting off their shitty parents since *forever*! I had great-aunts who did in the 1920s! My grandparents eloped in the early '30s to get away from my grandma's stepdad and didn't speak to them again until the oldest kids were teenagers.

I mean probably they were those faddish 'modern' children who didn't respect their elders - grandma bobbed her hair, and a great-aunt had her photo taken in a *one-piece bathing suit* - so I guess the complaint is still valid.
