It sounds romantic to me as well -- not the horrible start, obviously, but hopeful direction.

Also, for so many reasons, Danny is a good advice columnist for this one. For the unlearning, for the gratitude for anyone from your conservative churchy past life who stood by you when you were queer, for all of it.

And thank heavens for not pussyfooting around "that’s child rape that was smiled upon by the church and the state and your family of origin".


The fact that legally, kids can't consent to sex with adults -- but they can in most states consent to marriage to adults, at which point their brains are assumed to have instantly matured to the point of ability to consent to sex -- is so incredibly fucked up at every level. (And I say that while simultaneously feeling that it's also incredibly fucked up how the law deals with the grey area of two young people close in age on either sides of the statuatory boundary choosing to have sex.)
