Maybe the son is a burden, we don't know. You can't help being sick, but you can help by not being a jerk to those caring for you. Sometimes isn't fair, but nobody is to blame for someone else being sick, and stuff like 'you have to just suck it because they can't help it' is the kind of advise that makes family and friends just give up.
